Josep Grimalt was born in 1973 in Alicante, at the foot of the Montgó Natural Park, next to the Mediterranean Sea. His academic training takes place in the early 1990s between Cuenca, Valencia and Athens, where, at the end, he undertakes the artistic path between the installation, painting and ceramics, carrying out some individual and collective exhibitions. In this period he also investigates in the field of sculpture in the urban environment, which leads him to make a monumental work that was acquired by the town hall of Gata de Gorgos (Alicante) to be located at a roundabout road CV-734.
Simultaneously, during this period, he prepares himself in the field of technical drawing to access the Body of Secondary Teachers of the Generalitat of Catalonia for the specialty of Drawing in 2001.
Grimalt has never abandoned his interest in painting, and continues to be trained in the technique of artistic ceramics in Barcelona, where in 2006 he received a prize for the association of ceramists in Catalonia.
Later, after a period of dedication to other activities, he retakes his passion for painting, a research that leads him to geometric abstraction, with a clear desire to develop an artistic career compatible with teaching. Therefore, in 2017 Grimalt, he was awarded the 3rd prize of the XVII Painting Contest at the Passeig de Sant Joan in Barcelona, which allowed him to exhibit at the Barcelona City Council and at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Barcelona. In 2018 he was Finalist in the call of ArtsFAD and was able to exhibit at the Museum of Design Hub of Barcelona during the Barcelona Design Week in the exhibition the Best Design of the year. Also in 2018 has been selected at the Eusebi Sempere Painting Biennale in Alicante.
Currently, Josep Grimalt lives and works in Barcelona, combining his teaching work as a professor of Technical Drawing of Baccalaureate with artistic activity, with the intention of exhibiting and promoting his work in a professional manner. Soon, next year, he will become Professor of Artistic Baccalaureate.
